Communion Prayer for Alcohol Addiction Recovery
If you are battling alcohol addiction or intense cravings, this communion prayer is a powerful way to reconnect with Jesus at the moment of temptation. You can return to this prayer every time a craving rises, using the bread and the cup as a reminder of His body and His blood. As you take communion, you are not just remembering, you are receiving His strength, His healing, and His power to walk in freedom.
Bread
The Body of Christ
Lord Jesus, You said, “This is My body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” As I eat this bread, I remember that by Your wounds I am healed.
So heal me now, Lord. Heal me from every craving, every chain of addiction, and every desire that wars against Your Spirit within me.
Your Word says that the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Therefore, I receive Your strength in place of my weakness. I receive Your discipline in place of my impulses. Instead of relying on my own willpower, I receive Your power to sustain me.
Because Your body was broken, mine can be restored. I declare that whatever was broken in me is now being rebuilt through the finished work of the cross.
As I partake of this bread, I receive healing, restoration, and freedom.
Cup
The Blood of Christ
Jesus, You declared, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” As I drink, I declare that Your precious blood cleanses me from all sin.
Wash me clean, Lord. Wash my mind, my body, my habits, and my history.
Where alcohol once promised comfort, Your blood gives eternal life. Where drinking once enslaved me, Your blood has redeemed me. Through You, I have redemption by Your blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of Your grace.
Moreover, I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony. Today I declare that addiction does not own me. Shame does not own me. My past does not define me.
Instead, the blood of Jesus speaks a better word over my future.
Closing Prayer for Strength and Sobriety
Father, when cravings rise, I look to the cross. Your Word says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Because of that promise, I surrender my weakness to You and receive Your strength.
Now fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Replace the thirst for alcohol with a hunger and thirst for righteousness, for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled.
Give me strength for today. Give me clarity of mind, discipline in my body, and peace in my emotions.
By faith, I receive sobriety as a gift of grace. I receive healing as my inheritance in Christ. And I receive freedom in the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
