Exposing Strongmen and Breaking Spiritual Strongholds
In Christian deliverance, exposing strongmen is often the key to breaking spiritual strongholds and finding lasting freedom.
The other day I was praying for a person deeply struggling with mental and emotional oppression.
As I stood next to him, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes in the spirit. I saw what Scripture calls a strong man standing at his right side. He was large, muscular, intimidating, and his face had the features of a bulldog or bull.
Compelled by the Holy Spirit, my guide and my Teacher, I grabbed my phone and typed into Google what I was seeing. It showed me an image in demonology associated with hidden knowledge and intellect without surrender.
This person had previously been involved in New Age and occult practices. There was a deep hunger for knowledge, insight, and understanding, but it was pursued apart from yielding to God. And that became a point of bondage.
Knowledge without surrender. Wisdom without humility. Intellect without obedience.
This had formed an agreement in the spirit realm.
Another Hidden Influence
Then the Lord showed me another entity influencing him.
In the spirit I saw a woman standing in armor working with Morax. So again I described to Google what I saw, and what came up was Asherah, also known historically as Ishtar. She is connected to control, seduction, and the weakening of men, not only through sexual immorality, but through lust for power, money, validation, and worldly security.
This was exactly where this person struggled, feeling powerless, controlled, and fragmented inside.
Breaking Agreements and Tearing Down Strongholds
Led by the Holy Spirit, we prayed a renunciation prayer, breaking agreements, covenants, and exchanges made knowingly or unknowingly with these dark influences. As we prayed, I saw a large metal hammer appear in the spirit.
As I was working with him, I kept looking things up and found that in the Old Testament, the people of God destroyed Asherah poles, objects erected even inside the temples of Yahweh to defile what belonged to Him.
Then the revelation began to unravel.
I saw how spiritually these poles of Asherah had been erected inside this man, and they needed to be torn down so that God, the Holy Spirit, could make His temple in him instead.
So once the agreements were broken, with a bit of imagination, intention, and help from God, this man began to tear down the stronghold with the hammer that appeared. He destroyed the Asherah poles and also tore apart the chains that Morax had on him, the chains that kept him chained to intellect without surrender to God.
God is truly amazing to reveal the hidden influences in our lives.
Are You Struggling with Spiritual Oppression?
So if you got this far, I must ask: are you someone who is struggling with lust, lust for worldly things, or sexual immorality?
Are you someone who hungers for knowledge, but deep down feels rebellious toward God?
These kinds of patterns can be influences for you as well.
The Holy Spirit can lead us to find the places where we have unknown agreements and contracts with negative spiritual influences. And you do not have to be involved in the occult for this to be real. Sometimes when we align ourselves with anger, rage, pride, or certain desires, spiritual influences attach themselves to those doors.
Exposing strongmen is how the Holy Spirit reveals hidden agreements and brings true freedom in Christ.
This Is Not About Fear. It Is About Freedom.
This is not about living in fear. It is about getting free.
As I was praying, I saw a picture of this person in his younger years doing automatic writing. In that moment, it was like a worship of the mind and self, and it formed a connection point between him and Morax.
It reminded me that the spirit realm often operates through claims and agreements, and sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply ask the Holy Spirit, “What is the agreement here so it can be broken?”
