A Daily Practice With God That Can Transform Your Day

For all you believers out there, I’d like to share a simple little practice called Seven Minutes in Heaven, a daily prayer practice that has made a world of difference for me.

It’s something I try to do every single day.

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵, it can completely transform my day.

So many of us wake up in the morning and have our prayer time, Bible study time, devotionals, or our normal morning routine with the Lord. Once we leave the house, though, we often get inundated with busyness and the day can start slipping away.

If your life is anything like mine, it gets busy quick.

Work responsibilities. Ministry responsibilities. Children responsibilities. Wife responsibilities. Family stuff. Grocery runs. Dinner plans. Appointments. Texts. Emails. Blah blah blah. On and on.

I really feel like the Lord inspired me with this simple little practice, and I call it:

Now some of you might remember a different version of that phrase from when we were kids 😂

Honestly, I think it was time for the name to be redeemed.

A Simple Daily Prayer Practice

This is how it works.

Somewhere in the middle of my workday, in the middle of all the hustle and bustle and “I have to do this” and “I need to pick up my son” and all the noise of life…

…I stop.

I get down on my knees.

I set a timer on my phone for 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀.

During those seven minutes, I give all of my mind, all of my heart, and all of my soul to the Lord.

“If from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV

And guess what?

When I do that…
I actually find Him.

He meets me there right in the middle of the craziness of my day.

I forget how powerful this simple daily prayer practice is sometimes.

How just seven minutes can completely shift my mindset when I start slipping into stress, frustration, distraction, or negativity.

It’s like those seven minutes stretch into eternity.

Because He is the timeless One.

The Aleph and the Tav.

The beginning and the end.

All I have to do is be willing.

Open myself.

Enter through Jesus, the Door, into that sacred place of communion and rest.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.”
Psalm 23:2 to 3 NIV

Spending Time With God During a Busy Day

In that place of peace, I often receive revelation.

Not because I came with an agenda.

Not because I came demanding answers or trying to get something from God.

I came there simply to be with Him.

Sometimes while I’m there, something will rise up in my heart to intercede for.

Or repent for.

Or delight in with the Lord.

𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦.

I go there just to be with Him.
To see what unfolds.
To see what’s on His heart for me and what’s on my heart for Him.

This simple little practice is so powerful because honestly, most of us can find seven minutes.

Seven minutes we would normally spend scrolling.
Or stressing.
Or mentally spiraling.
Or distracting ourselves during lunch break.

It does not matter if you already spend time with God in the morning or the evening.

The beauty of this Seven Minutes in Heaven prayer practice is its simplicity.

I really believe God is looking for people He can partner with throughout the day.

In order to do that, we have to become willing vessels.

“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.”
Romans 12:1 NIV

Reconnecting With God in Everyday Life

So this is my encouragement to you:

Set a Monday through Friday alarm around lunchtime.

Call it “Seven Minutes in Heaven.”

Then let God be God.

Let Him do what only He can do in the middle of a busy workday.
In the middle of your Monday mess.
In the middle of parenting.
In the middle of exhaustion.
In the middle of ordinary life.

We get to simply be with Him.

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.

“And we all… beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image from glory to glory.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

Seven minutes.

That’s all.

You might be surprised what eternity can do with seven surrendered minutes.
